If you are looking for a great spot to fish for walleye, northern pike, and whitefish, then search no more. Lake Mattagami is the best place to catch these fish in northern Ontario. Geographically, Lake Mattagami is part of the rocky Canadian Shield lake system and therefore has many rocky points and shoals. The lake offers extraordinary numbers of walleye around the normal two-and-a-half pound weight range; perfect for a catch and cook on the shore lunch. However, some of these beasts can grow up to 10 pounds!

However, this is small compared to some of the northern pike people haul out of the lake each year. It is not uncommon for fishing guests to reel in pike upwards of 20 pounds, though the average fish is about half this size, in the 20-35 inches range. Due to the prevalence of these fish, smallmouth bass have been unable to successfully become a dominant species in the ecosystem and are therefore a more rare catch. On the contrary, the bronzebacks are able to survive this ferocious ecosystem and have been able to grow bigger and bigger in size. Of all the fish species though, whitefish could be the most abundant. They can grow up to eight pounds in Lake Mattagami. In the spring before the season’s mayfly population hatches, fishing patrons can toss a line in the water and see instant results for hours at a time.

Live bait, gas, oil, ice, fishing & hunting licenses may be obtained at the Lodge.
